About 92% of people who set New Year’s goals never actually achieve them. Read that sentence one more time. I’ll wait.
Ready? Here we go.
What. The. Heck.
This means only eight percent of people are crushing it. It frustrates me to think about all the goals I set for myself at the beginning of every year that end up on the back burner because I never “find the time”. How many of us are still waiting for that perfect moment to even begin the planning process? I may be busy, tired, and full of endless excuses for not doing something, but when I’m passionate about something I become competitive, self-motivated and I don’t want to be on a losing team.
You Have to Want It And Want It Badly.
So how do you become part of the eight percent? It takes focus, discipline and a lot of heart. You have to want it and want it badly. I want it.
Three weeks ago I started training for my first marathon. Completing a marathon has been at the top of my list for a very long time. Running for 26.2 miles scares me but that’s exactly why I need to do it. It’s not just the marathon that I want to conquer but what it represents. I need to do this for every goal I ever set and placed on the back burner for whatever excuse I made. Race day is December 8, 2019.
What Are Friends For?
Luckily for me, I don’t have to traverse this journey alone. What are friends for if not to help push and motivate you when you’re running on your last carb. My great friend Christina will be running the marathon with me. She’s been training with me just about every day. She’s more disciplined and just as crazy as I am and she helps make long runs seem like a breeze. She also helped me convince two other friends to run with us. I don’t think they understand what they signed up for.
